ANAPANA MEDITATION

Anapana Meditation is a part of Vipassana. Vipassana practices Anapana Meditation before actually starting. This involves mainly focusing on your breath. One has to close the eyes and focus only on the breath. Do not make any changes in it. Focus on the triangular area between the nose and the upper lip and observe the breath very minutely. At first the mind wanders a lot but it should be brought back to its place again and again.After practicing for a long time, the mind becomes calm and subtle. When the mind reaches such a subtle state, Vipassana can be started.

VIPASSANA

The meaning of the word Vipassana is to see something as it is. Vipassana is a process of removing mental impurities and disorders by looking into one’s inner self. After ananapan, once the meditation is concentrated, the actual vipassana is started. Through insight/introspection while eyes are closed, our different parts are observed sequentially from the top of the head to the toes. It is practiced to observe the subtle sensations arising in different parts of the body with a neutral feeling. It is practiced to impress upon the mind that these sensations are impermanent. In the same way, feelings such as anger, hatred, jealousy, and greed arising in the mind are also practiced by combining the sensations and feelings of impermanence and seeing them as they are impermanent. A great change can be experienced with continuous practice.
